Turns out that a mate of mine who I have known for 35 years has Motor Neurone Disease. He is among the two Australians diagnosed with MND every day. There is no cure.
So, rather than waste his time with my sympathy, I am walking from one end of the Gold Coast to the other and back, along the sand, over four days … calm down, I am planning to stop at at least 16 pubs.
Rather than all the benefits of the walk going to breweries and the makers of paracetamol, ibuprofen, etc, this is an opportunity to raise awareness of MND and a few dollars for the charity that helps people living with MND.
As noted on Australian Story, this really is a bastard of a disease. Please donate and help MND NSW provide support, equipment, and information and education to people living with MND, their families and healthcare professionals throughout NSW, the ACT and NT.
