The Inspiration / My Goals

I recently lost a dear friend, mentor, and Scout Leader, Fons Meenhuis, to Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Fons was my Scout Leader during my younger years and had a profound impact on my life, as well as the lives of countless young people. Through his guidance, encouragement, and example, he inspired me to become a Scout Leader myself and to give back to others in the same way he gave to so many.

Throughout his life, Fons dedicated himself to creating opportunities for young people. Through his leadership, commitment, and tireless fundraising efforts, he helped raise more than $1 million to support Scouts attending international events and to give less fortunate young people from Timor-Leste the opportunity to participate in Australian Scout Jamborees.

Fons believed that every young person deserved the chance to grow, learn, and experience adventures that could change their lives. His passion for Scouting, service, and helping others created a legacy that continues to inspire many of us today.

To honour Fons' memory and the incredible difference he made in so many lives, I am raising money for Motor Neurone Disease research. Every dollar raised will help support vital research into finding a cure and provide hope for those affected by this devastating disease.

To make things a little more interesting, I've set a few fundraising milestones:

• $2,000 – I'll straighten my hair.
• $3,000 – I'll get a mohawk.
• $3,500 – I'll shave my head completely.

These challenges are a small sacrifice compared to what people living with MND face every day, but if they help raise awareness and encourage donations, they'll be well worth it.
